Four Seasons, One Closet

Four Seasons, One Closet

Women often ask me how I organize my closet.  No, I don’t have 2 closets separating my summer and winter apparel.  And I don’t shove all of my winter clothes into a trunk when summer arrives.  By mixing and matching articles of clothing, layering and reinventing pieces, I manage to fit my wardrobe for all four seasons into my one walk-in closet.

I know many women organize their closet by color, however I am more of a “categorizer.”  I assign areas that make sense to me…  Short sleeve blouses, sweaters, jackets, work pants, jeans…  Then there are summer dresses, winter dresses and in-betweenie dress.   Cocktail dresses, skirts and summer shorts.  Clutches and scarves live in cute cloth bins, and finally, my shoes are a little bit all over the place, but again, it all makes sense to me.  J
My biggest suggestion for closet organization and cleaning would be to first decide what to keep, toss, donate or tailor.Would you feel excited, comfortable or pretty wearing it out tonight? If the answer is no, let it go!Or, if you can’t say goodbye just yet, simply place your “questionable” items in a bag and put it under your bed.Revisit the bag in 3 months and see if you even remember what you put in there. There’s your answer.J

Fat Tuesday Shoes

Fat Tuesday Shoes

40 days and 40 nights of no shopping…  That’s right, I gave up shopping for Lent.  People seem shocked to learn that I have given up one of my favorite activities for this 40 day period, but when I was looking in my closet the other day I realized I really don’t need anything.  Now, I am not saying there won’t be challenging moments…  I’m sure I’ll be craving a new dress or bag when I get an email about a sale at my favorite store, but I will be forced to create new and different outfits from the existing items in my closet.

I did have a moment of weakness though…  When most people are indulging in chocolate, fried donuts and plenty of beverages on Fat Tuesday, I indulged in shoes.  Since I decided that giving up shopping would be a difficult challenge, I ordered 2 pairs of shoes on Fat Tuesday…  Whoops.  Well, they were on sale.  J  So, I guess my new shoes will need to keep me happy until after Easter.

Coveting Now: Lela Rosa for Payless

Coveting Now: Lela Rosa for Payless

Owning a little piece of high fashion at an incredible price is an amazing thing.  That’s why I recently snatched up these adorable mustard yellow pumps from Lela Rose for Payless.  Her styles have been seen in InStyle, Lucky Magazine and US Weekly.  The Lela Rose Wedding Collection, with its feminine and delicate details, has become a popular designer for brides and bridesmaids alike.  I love when designers pair up with affordable retails to make their unique fashions available to everyday shoppers.  And I’m pretty excited to wear my yellow heels!  J

Good things come to those who wait…

Good things come to those who wait…

Patience is a virtue.  Good things come to those who wait.  Sure sure…  Wait and be patient.  But seriously, aren’t there times when you just want to scream “I want it nowwwww!”  Well, that’s how I felt about these great pair of heels from Ann Taylor, but at over $200 there was no way I was going to pay full price.  So, I patiently waited.  I waited 3 months until they went on sale.  Still, too expensive.  Then, 50% off all sale!  Still, a little much so I kept waiting.  Finally, 50% off sale and a $20 gift card!  Voila!   They are now in my closet.  J  Maybe there is something to be said for a little patience.
